Reserve Program

The purpose of the Miami County Reserve Program is to allow currently certified EMTs, AEMTs, and paramedics the ability to obtain EMS experience, on a volunteer basis, without the commitment of part-time or full-time employment.

Members

Members of the Reserve Squad are employees of Miami County EMS. They are provided a uniform and access to any training that is offered. The only difference is that they are not paid for their time. Reserve Squad members are required to complete the new hire process including an interview, physical and physical agility testing, and complete a background check and pre-employment drug screen. When they have been offered a position, members of the Reserve Squad will complete a new hire academy and orientation to the ambulance service as their schedule permits. Once orientation is complete, they may be released to independent duty and allowed to help cover standby events or fill openings on the shift roster.

Requirements

Once released from orientation, reserve squad members may act as a second crew member on an ambulance, ride along as a third crew member on an ambulance, or provide coverage for standby events. Reserve Squad members are asked to volunteer at least 24 hours each month, but are not limited to the amount of time they work.
